Module 4 · Yogas, Wealth, Longevity and Condition
Week 7 — Wealth, Poverty, Longevity, Death, and Condition
Here BPHS turns from what combinations exist to what a life actually receives: how much wealth, how little, how long, and by what agency it ends. Chapter 47's Avasthas then close the module by answering the question left open in Week 3, when Chapter 13's prosperity rule contained a clause you could not yet use.
What you should be able to do by the end
Assess what a chart promises materially, and understand how BPHS reasons about longevity and death - including how uncertain that reasoning is, and how responsibly it has to be communicated.
This is the week that most needs a steady adult voice, and there are two places it matters.
Longevity first. Parashara gives three systems - Pindayu, Amshayu, Naisargayu - and they routinely disagree. He also gives rules for choosing between them. The honest teaching is that he treats lifespan as a real object of inquiry, hands you three instruments, and expects judgment. The dishonest teaching is either to suppress the chapter or to hand you a formula you will point at people. This course does neither, and it does not train you to announce death dates.
Then Avasthas. Chapter 47 contains roughly ten distinct schemes across seven and a half thousand words. Practical work uses a few of them constantly and the rest rarely. You learn the four that matter, see the shape of the remainder, and leave able to navigate the chapter.
