72. RESULTS OF ASHTAKAVARGA

आत्मस्वभावशक्तिश्च पितृचिन्ता रवेः फलम् ।
मनो-बुद्धि-प्रसादश्च मातृचिन्ता मृगांकतः ॥ १ ॥

भ्रातृसत्त्वं गुणं भूमिं भौमेनैव विचिन्तयेत् ।
वाणिज्यकर्म वृत्त्व्वि सुहृदं च बुधेन तु ॥ २ ॥

गुरुणा देहपुष्टिञ्च विद्या पुत्रार्थसम्पदः ।
भृगोर्विवाहकर्माणि भोगस्थानं च वाहनम् ॥ ३ ॥

वेश्यास्त्रीजनसंभोगं शुक्रेण च निरीक्षयेत् ।
आयुश्च जीवनोपायं दुःखशोक-भयानि च ॥ ४ ॥

सर्वक्षयं च मरणं मन्देनैव निरीक्षयेत् ।
तत्तद्भावफलांकेन गुणयेद् योगपिण्डकम् ॥ ५ ॥

सप्तविंशोधृतं शेषतुल्यर्क्षे याति भानुजः ।
यदा तदा तस्य तस्य भावस्यार्ति विनिर्दिशेत् ॥ ६ ॥

1-6: The attributes like, the soul (आत्मा), nature, strength (physical); father are to be considered from the Sun. The mind, wisdom, happiness, mother are signified by the Moon. The matters to be reckoned from Mars are, co-borns, valour, qualities, land. Business matters, sources of livelihood and friends be considered from Mercury. Jupiter will signify body's nourishments, education, children, wealth and property. The matters relating to the marriage, sexual relations, vehicle (conveyance), prostitution, sexual union with the women are to be contemplated from Venus. Longevity, means of life support, distress, sorrow, fear, losses of all kinds and death are to be reckoned from Saturn.

The Rekhas of the house (sign) under the consideration be multiplied by the (total) Shodya Pinda (योग पिंड) of the concerned Ashtakavarga and the product be divided by 27. The remainder be taken as a unit number for the Nakashatra to be counted from Aswini Nakshatra onward. The transit of Saturn over that Nakashatra will prove harmful for the native.

अर्काश्रितर्क्षान्नवमो राशि: पितृगृहं स्मृतम् ।
तद्राशिफलसंख्याभिर्वर्धयेद् योगपिण्डकम् ॥ ७ ॥

विभजेत् सप्तविंशत्या शेषर्क्षे याति भानुजः ।
यदा तदा पितृक्लेशो भवतीति न संशयः ॥ ८ ॥

तत्त्रिकोणगते वाऽपि पिता पितृसमोऽपि वा ।
मरणं तस्य जानीयात् पीडां वा महतीं वदेत् ॥ ९ ॥

7-9 : The 9th house from the sign of the natal Sun denotes father. Therefore, the (benefic) Rekhas of that sign' in the Sun's Ashtakavarga be multiplied by the total Pinda of the Sun's Ashtakavarga. The product be divided by 27. The transit of Saturn over the Nakshatra denoted by the remainder number (counting it from the Aswini Nakshatra) will indicate distress for the father of the native. The trinal Nakshatras therefrom (10th or 19th Nakshatra) if also having the transit of Saturn, will also cause death or intense distress to the father or relatives alike father (uncle etc.) of the native.

गुणयेद् योगपिण्डं वा तद्राशिफलसंख्यया ।
अर्कोद्घृतावशेषर्क्षे यदा गच्छति भानुजः ॥ १० ॥

तत्त्रिकोणर्क्षकं वापि पितृकष्टं तदा वदेत् ।
रिष्टप्रददशायां तु मरणं कष्टमन्यदा ॥ ११ ॥

10-11 : The benefic Rekhas (obtained by Aries sign in the Sun's Ashtakavarga) be multiplied by the total Pinda of the Sun's Ashtakavarga and the product be divided by 12. The sign denoted by the remainder and trinal signs (5th and 9th) therefrom are when transited by Saturn, the native's father suffers distress. Should there be the Dasa of an afflicted planet, it may cause even death of the father.

अर्कात् तु तुर्यगे राहौ मन्दे वा भूमिनन्दने ।
गुरुशुक्रेक्षणमृते पितृहा जायते नरः ॥ १२ ॥

लग्नात् चन्द्राद् गुरुस्थाने याते सूर्यसुतेऽथवा ।
पापैर्दृष्टे युते वापि पितॄनाशं वद् बुधः ॥ १३ ॥

लग्नात् सुखेश्वरारिष्टदशाकाले पितृक्षयः ।
अनुकूलदशाकाले नेति चिन्त्यं विचक्षणैः ॥ १४ ॥

12-14 : If Rahu, Saturn or Mars, devoid of any benefic aspects, is placed 4th from the Sun at the time of the transit of the Saturn over the trinal signs (as described earlier), it will cause death to the father.

If Saturn is posited at the 9th position from Jupiter from the Ascendant or the Moon and is conjoined with or aspected by the malefic planets, the learned should predict the death of the father. The Dasa of the lord of the 4th house from the Ascendant will also attribute death of the father.

If (at that time) favourable Dasa is in operation, the learned should not predict such results.

पितृजन्माष्टमे जातस्तदीशे लग्नगेऽपि वा ।
करोति पितृकार्याणि स एवात्र न संशयः ॥ १५ ॥

15 : If the Ascendant of the native happens to be the 8th sign of his father or the 8th lord of the father is posited in the Ascendant of the native, that native will take over the left over duties (responsibilities) of the father after the death of his father.

सुखनाथदशायान्तु सुखप्राप्तेश्च संभवः,
सुखेशे लग्नलाभस्थे चन्द्रस्थानाद् विशेषतः ।
पितृगेहसमायुक्ते जातः पितृवशानुगः ॥ १६ ॥

पितृजन्मतृतीयर्क्षे जातः पितृधनाश्रितः ।
पितृकर्मगृहे जातः पितृतुल्यगुणान्वितः ॥ १७ ॥

तदीशे लग्नसंस्थेऽपि पितृश्रेष्ठो भवेन्नरः ।
एवं पूर्वोक्तसामान्यफलं चात्रापि चिन्तयेत् ॥ १८ ॥

16-18 : If the Dasa of the lord of the 4th house from the Ascendant is in operation, the father of the native will be bestowed happiness. If the lord of the 4th house from the Ascendant is posited in the Ascendant or in the 11th house or the lord of the 4th house from the Moon is located in the Ascendant, the 11th house or in the 10th house, the native will be obidient to his father.

If the sign of the Ascendant or the Moon of the native be the 3rd sign from the Ascendant or Moon of the father, that native will depend upon (inherit) the wealth of the father.

If the native takes birth in the sign (Ascendant) which is the 10th sign in the father's nativity, that native will acquire the qualities of his father. If the lord of the 10th house (of the native) is posited in the Ascendant, that native will gain better illustrious position than his father.

In this way, the previously stated similar results should also be assessed.

सूर्याष्टवर्गे यच्छून्यं तन्मासे वत्सरेऽपि च ।
विवाहव्रतचूड़ा़दि शुभकर्म परित्यजेत् ॥ १९ ॥

यत्र रेखाधिका तत्र मासे संवत्सरऽपि च ।
अनिष्टेऽपि रवौ जीवे शुभकर्म समाचरेत् ॥ २० ॥

19-20: If a sign of the Sun's Ashtakavarga bears no Rekhas (more inauspicious Bindus instead) at number of places, in the month of that sign (i.e. during the transit of the Sun in that sign) and also during Samvatsar (संवत्सर-i.e. when Jupiter transits that sign), no marriages, fasting or any other auspicious functions be performed. However, if that sign secures more number of Rekhas, one should undertake auspicious works during the transit of the Sun in that sign or transit of Jupiter that sign.

एवं चन्द्राष्टवर्गे च यत्र शून्यं भवेद् बहु ।
तत्र तत्र गते चन्द्रे शुभं कर्म परित्यजेत् ॥ २१ ॥

चन्द्राच्चतुर्थतो मातृ- प्रासाद-ग्राम-चिन्तनम् ।
चन्द्रात् सुखफलात् पिण्डं वर्द्धयेद् भैश्च सम्भजेत् ॥ २२ ॥

शेषमृक्षं शनौ याते मातृ-हानिं विनिर्दिशेत् ।
तत्त्रिकोणगते वापि शनौ मातृरुजं वदेत् ॥ २३ ॥

21-23 : In the same manner, which ever sign secures. more places devoid of Rekhas (or more number of Bindus), the auspicious works should be avoided during the transit of the Moon in that sign.

One should assess results related to Mother, house and village (or town) from the 4th house from the Moon. Therefore, the number of Rekhas in the 4th house from the Moon be multiplied by the total Pinda (Rashi Pinda and Graha Pinda put togather) then divide the product by 27 (Nos. of Nakshatras) and the transit of Saturn over the Nakshatra falling at the number denoted by the remainder (from Aswini) will indicate the death of the mother. Further, the product be divided by 12 (number of signs) and the sign denoted by the remainder when gets the transit of Saturn, or over the 5th or the 9th sign therefrom, it will deliver distress to the mother.

Rashi (sign) Pinda of the Moon's Ashtakvarga :

Graha (Planet) Pinda:

The number of Rekhas in the 4th house from the Moon = 4

Multiplied by the total Pinda = 4 × 77 = 308

Divided by 27 = 308 ÷ 27 = Remainder = 11

The 11th Nakshatra is Poorva Phalguni.

Therefore, the transit of Saturn over Poorva Phalguni Nakshatra will produce results like death or distress for the mother of the native.

Again by dividing the product 308 by 12, we get 8 as remainder, which means Scorpio sign and the transit of Saturn over this sign will indicate distress for the mother.

Besides, the trinal Nakshatras represented by the 10th and 19th Nakshatras will be Poorva Ashada and Bharani respectively and the trinal (5th and 9th) signs of Scorpio will be Pisces and Cancer and the transit of Saturn through these Nakshatras or signs will bring tremendous distress and miseries for the mother of the native.

भौमाष्टवर्गे संचिन्त्यं भ्रातृविक्रमधैर्यकम् ।
कुजाश्रितात् तृतीयर्क्षं बुधैभ्रातृगृहं स्मृतम् ॥ २४ ॥

त्रिकोणशोधनं कृत्वा यत्र स्यादधिकं फलम् ।
भूमेर्लाभोऽत्र भार्याया भ्रातृणां सुखमुत्तमम् ॥ २५ ॥

भौमो बलविहीनश्चद् दीर्घायुर्भातृको भवेत् ।
फलानि यत्र क्षीयन्ते तत्र भौमे गते क्षतिः ॥ २६ ॥

तृतीयर्क्षफलेनाथ पिण्डं सम्बर्ध्य पूर्ववत् ।
शेषमृक्षं शनौ याते भ्रातृकष्टं विनिर्दिशेत् ॥ २७ ॥

24-27: From the Ashtakavarga of Mars, the brothers, valour, courage, patience etc. are assessed. The third house from Mars denotes brothers (co-borns)

After Trikona Shodhan, which ever sign has more number, the transit of Mars in that sign will give gains of property and woman (marriage) and affection from the brothers (co-borns). The sign if left with no number after the trikona Shodhana (reduction), the transit of Mars over that sign will produce distress for the brothers (co-borns).

The (total) Shodya Pinda (क्षोद्या पिंड) of Mars be multiplied by the number of Rekhas contained in the 3rd place from Mars and the product be divided by 27 (Nos. of Nakshatras). When the Nakshatra falling at the number denoted by the remainder and Trinal Nakshatras therefrom (10th and 19th) and the sign indicated by the remainder number after dividing the product by 12 and its trinal signs (5th and 9th) are transited by Saturn, it will cause distress to the borthers (co borns).

The Rashi Pinda and Graha Pinda be computed as illustrated in the case of Moon's Ashtakavarga and which works out as 100 and, 46 respectively and the Shodhya Pinda 146. Since the 3rd place from the Mars secured only one Rekha the product (146 × 1) will also be 146. This figure on being divided by 27 will leave the reminder of 11. Therefore, the 11th Nakshatra will be Ultara Phalguni and the 10th and 19th Nakshatras therefrom will be Poorva Ashada and Bharani.

Similarly, if we divide the product by 12, we get remainder as 2. The second sign from Aries will that be of Taurus. The 5th and 9th signs therefrom will be Virgo and Capricorn.

The transit of Saturn over Nakshatras Uttar Phalguni, Poorva Ashada and Bharani and the signs Tauras, Virgo and Capricorn will produce distress for the brothers (co-borns).

बुधात्तुर्ये कुटुम्बं च मातुलं मित्रमेव च ।
बुधे फलाधिके राशौ गते तेषां सुखं दिशेत् ॥ २८ ॥

बुधाष्टवर्ग संशोध्य शेषमृक्षं गते शनौ ।
कष्टं कुटुम्बमित्राणां मातुलानां च निर्दिशेत् ॥ २९ ॥

28-29: The 4th place (स्थान) from the sign in which Mercury is posited signifies family, friends, maternal uncle etc. The sign bearing more number of Rekhas in the Ashtakavarga of Mercury. The transit of Mercury over that sign will confer happiness to them (family, maternal uncle, friends etc.).

After carrying out the Shodhanas of the Ashtakavarga of Mercury, the Nakshatras so obtained are when transited by Saturn, it will indicate distress to the family, friends, maternal uncle etc. In order words, the Shodya Pinda obtained after applying Trikona and Ekadhipatya Shodhanas in the Ashtakavarga of Mercury be multiplied by Rekhas of sign harbouring Mercury and the product be divid by 27. The Nakshatra denoted by the number of the remainder and the trinal Nakshatras there from (10th and 19th) are when transit by Saturn will cause distress to the family etc. In the same manner, the product be divided by 12 (Nos. of signs) and the sign indicated by the remainder and the 5th and the 9th signs therefrom are when transited by Saturn, brings about distress to the family, friends, maternal uncle etc.

The Rashi Pinda and Graha Pinda are to be computed in the manner as have been carried out in the case of Moons' Ashtakavarga. Accordingly, the Rashi Pinda and Graha Pinda are arrived at as 66 and 36 respectively with the (total) Shodya Pinda of 102 units. Mercury is posited in the sign of Leo and the 4th sign therefrom is Scorpio which contains 4 Rekhas. The product (102 × 4 = 408) when divided by 27 gives remainder as 3 and when divided by 12 will give zero as remainder. Therefore, the 3rd Nakshatra being Kritika and trinal Nakshatra therefrom (10th and 19th) would be Uttar Phalguni and Uttar Ashada and similarly, the 'Zero' sign equals to the 12th sign i.e. Pisces. The 5th and 9th signs therefrom are Cancer and Scorpio respectively.

Therefore, the transit of Saturn over Nakshatras Kritika, Uttar Phalguni and Uttar Ashada and also signs Pisces, Cancer and Scorpio will cause distress and sorrows to the family, friends, maternal uncles etc.

जीवात् पञ्चमतो ज्ञानं धर्मं पुत्रं च चिन्तयेत् ।
तस्मिन् फलाधिके राशौ सप्तानस्य सुखं दिशेत् ॥ ३० ॥

बृहस्पतेः सुतस्थाने फलं यत्संख्यकं भवेत् ।
शत्रुनीचगृहं त्यक्त्वा तावती सन्ततिर्ध्रुवा ॥ ३१ ॥

सुतभेशनवांशैश्च तुल्या वा सन्ततिर्भवेत् ।
सुतभावफलेनैवं पिण्डं संगुण्य पूर्ववत् ॥ ३२ ॥

पुत्रकष्टं विजानीयात् शेषमृक्षं गते शनौ ।
एवं धर्मं च विद्यां च कल्पयेत् कालवित्तमः ॥ ३३ ॥

30-33 : From the 5th place to Jupiter, knowledge, religion, and son (children) are to be considered. If the sign at the 5th places containing more Rekhas, it will deliver happiness of the children. The number of Rekhas in the sign at the 5th place denotes that many number of children provided this sign being other than the sign of debilitation viz. Capricorn. Besides, the number of children may also be equal to the number of Rekhas in the Navamsa of the 5th house (from the Ascendant).

In the Ashtakavarga of Jupiter, the number of Rekhas in the sign, 5th from the Jupiter be multiplied by the (total) Shodya Pinda of the Jupiter's Ashtakavarga. The product be divided by 27 and the transit of Saturn over the Nakshatra denoted by the remainder and the trinal Nakshatras (10th and 19th) therefrom and also the sign indicated by the remainder obtained on dividing. the product by 12 and the trinal (5th and 9th) signs therefrom, will bring distress to the children and will also affect the knowledge and religion.

The Rashi and Graha Pindas are computed in the manner, it is worked out in case of Moon's Ashtakavarga the position is as under:

Jupiter is posited in the sign of Gemini and therefore, the 5th sign therefrom would be Libra which contains 3 Rekhas. The product (94 × 3 = 282) when divided by 27, leaves a remainder of 12. The 12th Nakshatral from Aswini Nakshatra will be that of Uttar Phalguni and the trinal Nakshatras (10th and 19th) therefrom will be Uttara Ashada and Kritika. Therefore, as and well Saturn transits over these three Nakshatras, it will cause distress to the children, the native will develop imprudence and irreligious propensities.

Now, when we divide the product (282) by 12, we get a remainder of 6 which is denoted by sign Virgo and the trinal signs therefrom are Taurus and Capricorn. Whenever Saturn will transit through these signs, there will be degradation in prudence, and religious pursuits and distress to the children.

शुक्रस्याकष्टवर्गं च निक्षिप्याकाशचारिषु ।
यत्र यत्र फलानि स्युर्भूयांसि किल तत्र तु ॥ ३४ ॥

वित्तं कलत्रं भूमिं च तत्तद्देशाद् विनिर्दिशेत् ।
शुक्राज्जामित्रतो दारलब्धिश्चिन्त्या विचक्षणैः ॥ ३५ ॥

जामित्रतत्त्रकोणस्थ - राशि - दिग्- देश - सम्भवा ।
सुखे - दुःखे स्त्रियाश्चिन्त्ये पिण्डं - संवर्ध्य पूर्ववत् ॥ ३६ ॥

34-36: The signs which contain more number of Rekhas in the Ashtakavarga of Venus and as and when Venus passes over these signs, the results like acquisition of wealth, woman (marriage) and property will be indicative towards the directions denoted by these signs. The possibilities of the gain of woman (marriage) will be in the direction or country (देश-places) indicated by the 7th house from Venus or trinal signs therefrom.

The happiness or sorrows related to woman (wife) be considered from the Rekhas contained in the 7th house (sign) from the Venus duly mutliplied by (total) Shodya Pinda etc.

The Rashi and Graha Pinda are calculated on the lines of Moon's Ashtakavarga and the final position so emerged is as follows

Venus is posited in the sign Cancer and the 7th sign therefrom is Capricorn which has 3 Rekhas and the product after multiplying these Rekhas with the total Shodya Pinda (3 × 97) comes to 291. The remainder after dividing this product by 27 is obtained as 21. The 21st Nakshatras from Aswini Nakshatra is Uttara Ashada and the trinal Nakshatras (10th and 19th) thereferom are Kritika and Uttar Phalguni. As and when Venus passes through these Nakshatras, the wife will get distressed.

Now, divide the product (291) by 12 and we get remainder as 3. The 3rd sign from Aries is Gemini and the trinal signs therefrom is Libra and Aquarius. The transit of Venus over these sign will bring about distress to the wife of the native.

शनैश्चराश्रितस्थानादष्टमं मृत्युभं स्मृतम् ।
तदेव चायुषः स्थानं तस्मादायुर्विचिन्तयेत् ॥ ३७ ॥

लग्नात्-प्रभृति मन्दान्तं फलान्येकत्र कारयेत् ।
तद्योगफलतुल्याब्दे व्याधिं वैरं समादिशेत् ॥ ३८ ॥

एवं मन्दादिलग्नान्तं फलान्येकत्र योजयेत् ।
तत्तुल्यवर्षे जातस्य तस्य व्याधिभयं वदेत् ॥ ३९ ॥

द्वयोर्योगसमे वर्षे कष्टं मुत्युसमं दिशेत् ।
दशारिष्टसमायोगे मृत्युरेव न संशयः ॥ ४० ॥

37-40: The 8th place from the Saturn, in a nativity is reckoned as Mrityu Sthana (place of death) and the same place also denotes the longevity and the longevity be considered from that position. Total up the number of Rekhas from the Ascendant to Saturn. The disease and enmity will be indicative in the year equal to the total number of the Rekhas. Also total up the Rekhas from Saturn to the Ascendant in the Ashtakavarga of Saturn and the danger of disease in the year equivalent to the total Rekhas be predicted. The sum total of both these number of Rekhas will denote the year in which death or death like distress will be indicative. If the Dasa causing Arishta (अरिष्ठ) also falls at the same period, it will inflict the death to the native.

The Ascendant of the Model horoscope is Aries and Saturn is posited in the 4th house in sign Cancer. The total Rekhas from Aries to Cancer are 5 + 6 + 4 + 2 = 17. Therefore, in the 17th year, the native will face ailments (disease) and also enmity or hostile behaviour of other persons. Saturn is in the Cancer sign and the total number of Rekhas from Cancerto the Ascendant are 29 (2 + 3 + 3 + 2 + 5 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 3 + 5) and total of both this sums (17 + 29) comes to 46. Therefore, one should predict the death like distress will cause to the native in the 46th years of his age. If the Dasa of Markesha planet is in operation during the same year, it will inflict death to the native.

The Moon's degress of the nativity is 1° 57' 9" and therefore the balance of Dasa in Vimshottari system will be of Mars (2 years, 5 months and 20 days). The 46th years of the native will fall in the year 2023 and at that time the Mahadasa of Saturn and Antardasa of Venus will be in opeation Venus is the lord of the 2nd and the 7th house and hence, it will act as Markesha. However, Venus is not posited in the Maraka Sthana and therefore, it will only cause death like distress, miseries etc., and may not inflict death to the native.

पिण्डं संस्थाप्य गुणयेत् शनेरष्टमगैः फलैः ।
सप्तविंशतिहृच्छेषतुल्यमृक्षं गते शनौ ॥ ४१ ॥

तत्त्रिकोणर्क्षगे वापि जातकस्य मृतिं वदेत् ।
अर्कहृच्छेषराशौ वा तत्त्रिकोणेऽपि तद् वदेत् ॥ ४२ ॥

41-42 : The number of Rekhas in the 8th place from Saturn (in the Ashtakavarga of Saturn) be multiplied by the total Shodhya Pinda and the product be divided by 27 and the Nakshatra equivalent to the remainder on counting from Aswini and its trial Nakshatras are when transited by Saturn, the death of the native is indicative. Besides, the product be divided by 12 and the sign denoted by the remainder and trinal signs therefrom are when passed over by Saturn, the native will encounter death like distress.

There are two Rekhas in the 8th house from Saturn is posited (Saturn is posited in the Cancer sign) which falls in the sign of Aquarius in the nativity. Therefore, multiply the Shodya Pinda by 2:

155 × 2 = 310

By dividing the product by 27, we get a remainder of 13. The 13th Nakshatra on counting from Aswini Nakshatra will that be of Hasta and the trinal Nakshatras therefrom (10th and 19th) will be denoted by Shravana and Rohini. As and when, Saturn passes through these three Nakshatras, there will be a possibility of the death of the native.

In the same way, the product (310) be divided by 12, we get a remainder of 10. The 10th sign from Aries will be Capricorn and its trinal signs (5th and 9th) will be Taurus and Virgo. The transit of Saturn through these three signs will cause fear of death to the native.

शनैश्चराष्टवर्गेषु यत्र नास्ति फलं गृहे ।
तत्र नैव शुभं तस्य यदा याति शनैश्चरः ॥ ४३ ॥

यत्र राशौ शुभाधिक्यं तत्र याते शनैश्चरे ।
जातकस्य ध्रुवं ज्ञेयं तस्मिन् काले शुभं फलम् ॥ ४४ ॥

43-44: All those places which do not secure any Rekha in the Ashtakavarga of Saturn and as and when Saturn will pass through these places, it will not do good to the native. The transit of Saturn over the signs having large number of Rekhas will be propitious for the native. This should be predicted with all certainity.
