98. PROPITIATION OF PLANETS FOR ABNORMAL BIRTHS

अथाऽहं संप्रवक्ष्यामि विकारं प्रसवोद्भवम् ।
येनाऽरिष्टं समस्तस्य ग्रामस्य च कुलस्य च ॥ १ ॥

अत्यल्पे वाऽधिके काले प्रसवो यदि जायते ।
हीनांगो वाऽधिकांगो वा विशिरा द्विशिरास्तथा ॥ २ ॥

नार्या पश्वाकृतिर्वापि पशुष्वपि नराकृतिः ।
प्रसवस्य विकारोऽयं विनाशायोपजायते ॥ ३ ॥

1-3 : Maharishi Parasara said - O Vipra! Now I narrate the abnormal birth (delivery) on account of which the entire village and family get afflicted. If there is an early or delayed birth or the child is born with less or more times or without the head or with two heads or female showing appearance of an animal or male of animal, these kinds of abnormal births signify destruction.

यस्य स्त्रियाः पशूनां वा विकारः प्रसवोद्भवः ।
अनिष्टं भवने तस्य कुलेऽपि च महद् भवेत् ॥ ४ ॥

तद्दोषपरिहारार्थं शान्तिः कार्या प्रयत्नतः ।
स्त्री वा गौवंडवा वापि परित्याज्या हितार्थिना ॥ ५ ॥

4-5 : These kind of birth (delivery) to a woman or animal in a house bring about affliction to the entire members of the family of the person concerned. In order to get relieved from such affliction, a proper procedure of propitiation should be carried out vigoursly or the concerned woman or animal viz., horse, cow etc. should be given up.

नार्याः पञ्चदशे वर्षे जन्मतः षोडशोऽपि वा ।
गर्भो वा प्रसवो वाऽपि च शुभाय प्रजायते ॥ ६ ॥

सिंहराशिस्थितेऽकं गौनक्रस्थे महिषी तथा ।
प्रसूता स्वामिनं हन्ति स्वयं चापि विनश्यति ॥ ७ ॥

ब्राह्मणाय प्रदद्यात् तां शान्तिं वाऽपि समाचरेत् ।
ब्रह्मविष्णुमहेशानां ग्रहाणां चैव पूजनम् ॥ ८ ॥

सर्वं होमादिकं कर्म कुर्यात् त्रीतरशान्तिवत् ।
ततो गृही सुखी भूत्वा सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते ॥ ९ ॥

6-9 : If a woman get pregnant or give birth to a child in the 15th or 16th years from her birth, it will be inauspicious. If cow gives birth when the Sun is posited in Leo sign, or a buffalo (female) gives birth when the Sun is in Capricorn, it will cause destruction to their keeper and also to their possessor (owner) and as such they should be donated in charity to a Brahmin or else, propitiatory measures be taken as per the prescribed procedure. All the rituals like Havan (हवन) etc. be carried out as per the sequence as described earlier in a peaceful manner and with which the entire family will be get released from the affliction and bestowed happiness.

एवं त्वरिष्टे सम्प्राप्ते नरः शान्तिं करोति यः ।
सर्वान् कामानवाप्नोति चिरजीवी सुखी च सः ॥ १० ॥

10 : Likewise, in a situation of any kind of affliction, if a person takes propitiatory measures, he after accomplishing all his desires, gets bestowed with prosperity happiness and long life.
